One of North America's more spectacular birds. They are easy to spot because they like to perch in the open and their long tails give away the species. They have an intense salmon-colored "wing-pit" with a lighter blush of salmon on their flanks.

One of my favorite summer birds in our area. It spends its winter in Western Mexico and stays with us in the summer in the higher elevations of the coastal mountains.

The striking blue color of this bird in otherwise green and yellow fields is real eye candy.
