I had seen one of these flies last summer and wished I had a chance to photograph it, and I haven't seen another one until today.
Sorry about the cropping of the antennae on the right, this is the only photo at this magnification I was able to take before he flew away. The eyes are really beautiful in the full size. Take a look at the different structures, sizes, and colors of all the lenses,
Taken using the 28mm reversed on a 2x teleconverter, and the left side was cropped a little to make things even.
