Giant Dogwood (Kjempekornell). Cornus controversa "Variegata".
Dogwoods are normally known as shrubs, but this one ("Giant dogwood") grows into a beautiful tree. Possibly the most beautiful tree I have seen. The combination of the white color and the shape of the branches is extraordinary.
Also called "Wedding cake tree", guess why.
Trompenburg arboretum in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
I planted this tree in my own (Trondheim) and my parents' (Sykkylven) gardens in Norway, but after a few years I had to admit it did not work. The growth was very slow, and finally they died.
The species are hardy, it has grown to a significant height both places. But this variety seems have much more problems with Norwegian winters, or something else?
