A first for me, as they very rarely come down into southern california. Nests in the Arctic, then in winter migrates down into the northern US. My new favorite buteo.

Rough legged hawk vs prairie falcon

The roughie blind sided the falcon and took his prey. The falcon was pissed and made about 5 or 6 aerial attacks. Shooting from my car, trying to track the pissed falcon was a bit challenging. I think the roughie might think twice, the next time he tries to rip off a falcon.
