Imagen en contraluz capturada en la Peña de Arias Montano, de esta espadaña-campanario y las dos garitas que la custodian. Este lugar es una pequeña meseta a 761 msm, que se encuentra en pleno corazón del Parque Natural de la Sierra de Aracena - Huelva, rodeado de encinas y castaños, dominando los tejados del município de Alájar y gran parte de esta sierra.
Lugar telúrico con cierto halo de misterio, con muchas grutas en su entorno, aquí se encontraron restos de asentamientos humanos pertenecientes a la edad del Bronce. A una de estas cuevas se retiró a meditar Benito Arias Montano, bibliotecário del monasterio de El Escorial en tiempos de Felipe II, a esto se debe el nombre del lugar.
Pero antes, los árabes en el año 1114, entraron con sus tropas en el lugar y sintieron esas vibraciones especiales de misterio por lo que consideraron el lugar como sitio de oración de La Laxar árabe.
En esta peña existe también El santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, levantado en el siglo XVI, que alberga la imagen titular de gran devoción en los pueblos de esta serranía y por la que se celebra una romería cada ocho de septiembre.

This place is a small plateau at 761 meters above sea level, which is located in the heart of the Sierra de Aracena - Huelva Natural Park, surrounded by oaks and chestnut trees, dominating the roofs of the municipality of Alájar and a large part of this mountain range.
A telluric place with a certain aura of mystery, with many caves in its surroundings, remains of human settlements belonging to the Bronze Age were found here.
Benito Arias Montano, librarian of the monastery of El Escorial in the time of Philip II, retired to one of these caves to meditate, which is why the place got its name...But before, the Arabs entered the place with their troops in the year 1114 and felt those special vibrations of mystery, which is why they considered the place to be a place of prayer for the Arab Laxar.
This rock also houses the sanctuary of Our Lady of the Angels, built in the 16th century, which houses the titular image of great devotion in the towns of this mountain range and for which a pilgrimage is held every 8th of September.
