I had a goal to get a Black-bellied Plover in breeding plumage this year. Ray Hennessy and I scouted a couple miles of beach along the Jersey shore and found a location that looked promising. That evening we returned and crawled what felt like another couple miles in the sand but the results were well worth it. Here the plover is capturing a sand crab. The late evening sun and green backdrop from the mossy jetty create an image that I really liked.
