We had a wonderful road trip...went through the Okanagan in BC, then down Eastern Washington through the Palouse area, which was as spectacular as I thought it would be. Unfortunately, in some areas there was still smoke in the air from the Washington forest fires, but in many places, like this one, the skies were breathtaking. Then we went through Idaho and back up to BC, where we stayed in Nelson for a couple of days before heading home.
This was one of those moments, while driving down the Palouse Scenic Byway, I yelled "stop!" My very accomodating husband stopped so many times for me, as we drove down, not only the highway, but down many dirt roads to explore the area.
I am still wading through my images from the trip and will be posting them randomly, not chronologically.
It will take me awhile to slowly catch up with all of you :)

Autumn in the Palouse is a world filled with golden fields and rolling hills. Miles and miles of farmland dotted with tiny houses and the odd tree here and there. I felt like I was in heaven :)

Yes, I got out of the car and squatted down in the middle of the road to take this shot. There was no one else around and it was my introduction to the Palouse. If you zoom in and look closely at the right, you will see a couple of little dust devils. The wind was pulling up the sand in little whirlwinds everywhere.
Unfortunately, there was some smoke in the air from the Washington forest fires, which created a haze.

Another image from the Palouse. I saw the abandoned barn and walked way into the hay field to take this shot from low down :)

Another one from the Palouse. I always wonder at what point people abandon their houses. And how did this roof cave in? I am happy to see abandoned houses and barns though, because I find them so photogenic.
