Stars, Shooting Satellites & Snow, Christmas Tree, Bieie, Hokkaido, Japan

Having completed my ten day Hokkaido photo tour yesterday and having seen my clients off at the airport, I decided the day before to extend my stay by another week.

So this week I shall be shooting solo and the reason for this is that I saw so many photo opportunities that were left on the shelf and I wanted to maximise my time here before I head to northern Spain for a nine day recce/scouting trip with Chris Frost.

So I drove nearly five hours from Kushiro to Biei yesterday afternoon and this had me pass the iconic Christmas Tree and I simply could not pass it without at least trying to shoot it in the dark (7pm). Some time later, mission accomplished.

Captured two days ago during my recent revisit to this stunning torii gate, this Toyosaki Konpira Shrine stands in the water off Cape Konpira and is one of Hokkaido most popular torii gates and you can see why.

I visited mid-afternoon after a fresh bout of snow had fallen and there was not even a footprint to spoil the view. It was one of those magical moments when you realise that you have the perfect place all to yourself in optimal conditions. How often does that happen these days?

I spent an hour wandering around capturing the torii gate from a variety of angles but this gorgeous golden light was on show when I first arrived.

This image is a blend of three images, all shot at different focus points and merged via focus stacked in Photoshop CC to ensure sharpness back to front.

What a wonderful hour's photography that was.
