During my brief stay in the Big Bend area I saw several of these, but I only got to shoot them a couple of times within range... I LOVE these birds, I'd go back to West Texas just for these. The song they sing is a lot like a Northern Cardinal, but it's much louder and prettier too. In the desert they sound perfect, their songs travel very far, and I could listen to them all day.
