For over two hundred years, this willow tree has weathered the harsh winter storms here on the coast of Øresund. A fisherman's wife named Maren Andersdatter (1768-1852) had found a particularly hardy species and tested whether it could take root despite the salt water splashing in during rough weather.
She needed willow shoots to make eel bucks, which were tied to the end of the eel traps for the precious catch.
The square hut in the middle, humorously called
the "Yellow Mansion", was originally a yarn and tool shed, built by two boat builders, Vilhelm Andersen and Thotvald Pedersen, in 1910.
