Blackheath was a meeting point of a number of rebellions (The Peasant’s revolt, 1381) and Jack Cade’s Kentish rebellion (1451). Cornish rebels were defeated on the western slopes at the Battle of Deptford Bridge in 1497. Henry V was met here on his way back from Agincourt by the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of London. Those in the photograph may have been readying themselves for further action!
