Usually I am excited at the sight of a wild animal, and here I was within a few feet of a top predator. It even looked at me as if it wanted a conversation. I was saddened that this graceful swimmer would resort to begging next to the quay. I told it to leave the oily waters of the harbour and go out into the North Sea, where hopefully the water is a bit cleaner. There were three seals in the dock at the time.

There were four big bucks in this area all peacefully grazing in close proximity. This suggests to me that the rut has probably ended this year. The Ranger said they would keep fighting until February, but I guess that would be sparring for next year, either that or they argue about Christmas and the New Year Celebrations, like all good families do!
