In June 1940, the South Australian State Cabinet agreed to build a new army hospital.

It was proposed that once the war was over, the hospital would become a Repatriation Hospital.

"Cudmore Estate" was obtained under wartime emergency regulations. The large bungalow style home Cudmore House (now called Daw House) fronted onto Daws Road.

The hospital closed in 2017, and staff, patients, etc moved into new facilities at Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Hospital, and the Jamie Larcombe Centre in early November.
