Godin van de Wind werd in 2002 speciaal voor Nieuwpoort gemaakt door schilder en beeldhouwer Antoon Luyckx. Het kunstwerk beeldt een vrouw uit, turend naar de zee, afwachtend, hopend, denkend aan een verdere bestemming. Talrijke interpretaties zijn mogelijk.

De werken van Luyckx zijn vooral geïnspireerd door de natuur, folklore en religie. In zijn beelden vinden we de mooiste voorbeelden van stilering van de gewone, natuurlijke vorm naar een uitgezuiverde abstractie.

Oorspronkelijk had Godin van de Wind een vaste stek op het Loodswezenplein, aan het begin van het Westerstaketsel. Het beeld moest in 2014 plaatsmaken voor Verzoening van Willem Vermandere. Na een paar jaar afwezigheid kreeg Godin van de Wind een nieuwe thuis in het Maritiem Park, waar ze uitkijkt over de Havengeul.
