Only a month or two before it was announced that the paper mill in Snowflake, AZ was closing, six Apache Alcos pull a loaded coal train south with all their might. A pleasant shortline adventure on a trip focused on mainline steam. May 2012.

The Texas Chief special for the Galveston Railroad Museum rolls southbound at Kenney, TX behind a great pair of F-units. While not necessarily prototypical, it is still great to see a cab unit leading a passenger train at track speed on a class 1 mainline in 2016. October 2016.

With the FEC's new schedule, 101 can be a morning shot at Stuart on the longer days of the year (and a little bit of delay helps too). The standard GEVO-LNG tender set lead it southbound on this day, under common FL weather conditions for the summer. July 2021.

If CMQ barns can run a stack train over CSX rails, then Ferromex SD40-2s can lead a mixed freight across Texas on UP rails. The MNLLF nears Sosan Yard in San Antonio with a pair of FXE SD40-2s, a patched ex-SP GP60, and an ubiquitous UP GEVO. The trailing power would be dropped in San Antonio, but unfortunately a UP SD70ACe leader was added for the run west on the Sunset Route, so timing is everything. Big thanks to Andrew D. for letting me use his flashes as part of his school of night photography. June 2020.
