This is the river Acheron that had an important meaning in the Greec mythology. "Acheron was known as the river of pain, and was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld" (Wikipedia).
Another river of these five was the river Styx. A well known band of the seventies named itself after that river. Their most famous song was 'boat on the river' and that title came into my mind when I took that photo...This is the song (the most of you will know...):
