Karski, Ché Lanser
Def Rhymz 4ever
Dennis Bouwman groeide op in de wijk Crooswijk en werd later een van de Nederlandse hiphoppioniers onder de naam Def Rhymz. Hij overleed op 53-jarige leeftijd aan een hartaandoening.

Lokale kunstenaar Ché Lanser eerde zijn leven met een portret op de nabijgelegen juridische muur van Schuttersveld. Tot zijn grote ontsteltenis werd deze muurschildering helaas na korte tijd overschilderd. Lanser sprak over zijn wens om een langer durend gedenkteken te creëren in het lokale en nationale nieuws, en daar komt Karski om de hoek kijken. Hij bood aan om Ché te helpen om deze nieuwe muurschildering mogelijk te maken. Iets meer dan een jaar na de dood van de rapper en MC begonnen ze hier met hun werk.

Ze maakten twee ontwerpen waar de lokale bevolking uit kon kiezen. Dit ontwerp met de twee gezichten van Dennis Bouwman werd gekozen als het populairst. Aan de linkerkant zien we de liefhebbende Dennis zoals zijn familie hem kent en herinnert. Rechts zien we de lichtelijk gestoorde Def Rhymz zoals de rest van het land hem kent.

Het gedicht bij het kunstwerk is geschreven door de lokale dichter Derek Otte.

Dennis Bouwman grew up in the Crooswijk neighborhood, to later become one of Netherlands hiphop pioneers under the name of Def Rhymz. He passed away at the young age of 53 as a result of a heart condition.

Local artist Ché Lanser honored his life with a portrait at the nearby legal wall of Schuttersveld. Much to his dismay this mural was sadly painted over after a short while. Lanser spoke about wanting to create a longer lasting memorial in local and national news, and that's where Karski comes in. He offered to help Ché to make this new mural possible. Just over a year after the death of the rapper and MC they started their work here.

They created two designs for the locals to choose from. This design with the two faces of Dennis Bouwman was chosen as the most popular. On the left side we see the loving Dennis as his family knows and remembers him. On the right we see the slightly crazy Def Rhymz as the rest of the country knows him.

The poem accompanying the artwork was written by local poet Derek Otte.

Dit is de eerste solo-opdrachtmuurschildering voor Ché, die al kunstenaar was maar zich pas het afgelopen jaar begon te ontwikkelen als muralist. Dit werk, naast de ingang van de tattooshop, symboliseert de doorbraak van de jeugd en de manier waarop de maatschappij verandert. Als het vroeger een no-go was om in delen van de maatschappij met tatoeages en piercings gezien te worden, hebben we nu CEO's die ermee bedekt zijn.

This is the first solo assignment mural for Ché, who was already an artist but started developing as muralist only in the last year. This work, next to the entrance of the tattoo shop, symbolizes the breakthrough of youth and the way society changes. If in older days it was a no-go to be seen with tattoos & piercings in parts of society, we now have CEO's covered in them.
