Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronte (1758 – 1805)
Nelson attended Paston Grammar School, North Walsham, and King Edward VI's Grammar School in Norwich until he was 12 years old. His naval career began on 1 January 1771, when he reported to the newly commissioned 64 gun HMS Raisonnable as an ordinary seaman under his maternal uncle, Captain Maurice Suckling, who commanded the vessel. Shortly after reporting aboard, Nelson was appointed a midshipman, and began officer training. Early in his service, Nelson discovered that he experienced seasickness, a chronic complaint he suffered for the rest of his life. Here we see him as a boy of 13 saying goodbye to his mother and father before departing for HMS Raisonnable in 1771. ( all generated by leonardo.ai )
