Imagined as a regal matron, Venice is seated in triumph on a Solomonic throne above waves flanked by two lions. Beneath her feet are two vanquished prisoners whose gestures seem to suggest they could be the two vices Ira and Superbia, wrath and pride. In her right had is the sword of Justice, in her left hand a scroll declares her victorious over the furies. The inscription translates as "Strong and just, enthroned I put the furies of the sea beneath my feet."
