I set the alarm for sunset allowing for the maximum sleep-in I could get away with. I woke early, before the alarm, in our tent facing the lake and, as nature was calling, thought I'd have alook and see whether I might be in for a sunrise. Upon pulling the tent flap aside, I saw the horizon lit up with orange. Bloody hell, the sun is rising earlier than was predicted. Obviously that's not possible but in the "world is against me" photographer mindset, that's what happened.
I grabbed my camera, already set on its tripod, pulled on some shoes and raced out in my Moose PJs, across the swampy foreshore to the edges of the lake. The sun began to rise behind the mountains, casting an orange glow and some red. Pretty, but heavy cloud over the lake, seemed to contain the colour. Then, just when I thought it was over, the colour exploded into red, pink and gold saturating the clouds and bathing the water below in spectacular style. I did not need to do much processing to this image, rather than enhance the colour, I almost had to pull it back!
A beautiful way to greet out 29 years of Marriage.

A beautiful starry night at Winton Wetlands.
I have added a night skys or textures to a couple of images recently so thought I should have a go myself while away from the city. There was still alittle ambient light around from some cars in the distance and the lights of the rural city of Benella. I had some vague recollections about what settings I should use -20-30 seconds with my 24 m lens to stop star trails and an ISO of 800. In the end I should have had a little higher ISO as I had underexposed but was pretty happy with the end result and not much noise when I increased the exposure slightly. I brought out abit of colour in the stars.
My brother is a brilliant astro- photographer and photographs planets and far off galaxies with the most amazing colours and details you have no hope of seeing with your naked eye.
There is a whole other word out there in the skies that is stunningly beautiful

Grumpiness set in as I awaited sunset and could not get a composition I was happy with. I really wanted to get to the water's edge to catch the reflections but the undergrowth was too heavy. I decided to go to higher ground and try to eliminate the foreground. The haunted trees provided a lovely silhouette and the sunset painted the sky.
Sorry to post and run but I'm off. Will catch you all on my return. x

And chill. Not everything has to be a masterpiece. Sometimes just being in the moment is enough. At least it should be,
A note to self.
