This was the very first lookout we stopped at along the Waimea Canyon Drive when the rainbow took my breath away.
Kaua'i is sometimes referred to as the place of the rainbows. The Island is one of the wettest places in the world and it is always raining somewhere on the Island. The rainbows are intense and can last for hours.

Laule‘a means peaceful, happy in Hawaiian and I think Hanalei Bay on the island of Kauai elicits those emotions.

Waioli Huiia Church, Kauai
I was very much looking forward to visiting this Church in Hanalei and it didn't disappoint (apart from the annoying woman who asked me about photographing the church and then proceeded to park in front of it).
Alittle bit of history of this famous little green Church..
The Wai`oli Mission was established by American Missionaries in 1834. A pole and thatch meetinghouse was constructed by Hawaiians on the Mission Hall site, in anticipation of the arrival of the missionaries.
In 1912 the present Wai`oli Church building was given by three sons of Abner Wilcox; Sam George, and Albert. This shingled church, built in the American Gothic Architectural style, has a belfry tower which houses the old Mission Bell. This bell was rung throughout the years, calling people to worship. In 1921 the Wilcox descendants restored the Mission House and the Mission Hall.
Having survived two previous hurricanes, Hurricane Dot and Hurricane Iwa, both the Wai`oli Hui`ia Church Sanctuary and the Wai`oli Mission Hall were restored after sustaining significant damage from Hurricane Ininki in 1992. Both buildings are listed on the state and national registers of historic places.

When Mark Twain first saw the Waimea Canyon, he dubbed it the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. As we were driving up the winding road toward the first lookout, I caught a glimpse of a rainbow though a gap in the trees. I wanted to jump out of the car there and then but common sense prevailed and luckily there was a space and we pulled into the lookout.
When I looked out into the canyon, I said out loud to no-one in particular, this is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. A lady was standing near-by and said she felt the same way. I know a picture often can't convey the beauty of a scene the way you see it and feel it but I hope this goes someway to doing that.
We have to have rain or a storm for there to be a Rainbow. It's the reward after going through the deluge and signals new life.
I really hope that the New Year brings rainbows to all of you, particularly those that have had a difficult time this year.
