Over the weekend we received some bad news regarding our beloved dog Ash. As I write this she sits by my side as she has done for the past 14 years . If I get up to move rooms, so does she, even though it is now hard work getting out of her bean bag. I have been fortunate to work mostly from home and so she is my constant companion. She has the sweetest nature and I could never have asked for a better pet. She is the type of dog that will never walk through a door unless she is invited. She is well known in our local community a result of walking her to school to pick up the kids for so many years and the fact that there aren't many standard poodles about. It is fortunate that she is so well known as recently, she wandered off much to our horror and a friend's son was driving by quite some distance from home and recognised her. He bundled her into his car and bought her back to us.
A blue poodle her Kennel name is Blueberry Ash. She is now grey, her eyes are cloudy and she is mostly deaf. She still gets excited by her walks though, short as they may be. I don't know how I will cope with what is to come but I must and I will. It is the price we pay for allowing our pets to share our lives and become part of our families. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to build the most extraordinary relationship with our pets that enriches us beyond measure.
Their lives are too short.
No heroics to try to save my old girl which is just to prolong the inevitable. We will just make sure the time she has left is comfortable and filled with love and attention-and lots of chicken wings.

My loyal, gentle old girl, Ash.
As soon as she sees the suitcases being packed, she mopes around, terrified she will be left behind!
We try to take her on holidays with us whenever we can.

Ash patiently sat with some flowers in her hair but with just a hint of resignation in her look -"really, how many photos do you need!?"

This is my gorgeous standard Poodle Ash. She was a model at our camera club meeting at the weekend. She literally sat on the model stand for two hours and let people photograph her. She shared the love by slowly turning from side to side, giving eveyone "the look". I don't think anyone came away without a stunning shot or two. I was like a very proud stage mother!
