or assault of the senses!

Abit of a silly one to start with from my Singapore trip but in some ways it epitomises the place-fast, bright and colorful and of course hot and humid!

This was the view from our room on the 25th floor. Lucky we are best friends and have known each other since we were five as there was a mix up with the room and only one bed! Couldn't get it changed.

We spent alot of time birding so expect to see more birds than anything else. I found the street photography reasonably tough for lots of reason so not very pleased with most of those images. A few will make it onto to Flickr,

Will take awhile to catch up with you all but I hope you are all happy and well ;)

These Malayan Water Monitors can grow up to 3 m long. Fairly intimidation to come across them but this one was very happy to go about his business, searching for food in the pond at the gardens in Singapore.

These lizards, along with snakes use their tongues to smell and apparently a forked tongue helps them smell better.

A break from birds to show one of my favourite street shots from Singapore. As I mentioned previously, conditions were challenging and I have a disappointing number of images that are not sharp.

Anyway, this turned out to be a favourite from China town. I just love the expression on the faces or the men. Relaxed in each others company.

Best viewed large!

I was so impressed by Singapore's cleanliness, greenery and order. However, if you move away from the glitz and glammer of the "crazy rich Asians" of the the main city, it is another story.

Indians make up 9.1% of Singapore's 3.9-million resident population. In Singapore, “Indians” refers to all those perceived to be of South-Asian descent. There is much discrimination within the property market where Indians are only second to the Chinese as the least preferred tenants.

We had a lovely vegetarian meal at an Indian restaurant there but then unfortunately witnessed a fight between a young man and the owner which ended in the police and ambulance arriving after the very angry young man punched the old owner in the face.

It made us think that we were very glad he was not carrying a gun as is the case in some countries. His friends tried to calm him but he turned on them. It was bad enough that he only had his fists -his temper and extreme anger over getting the order wrong resulted in his total loss of control.

Before I went to Singapore, Mr James R. Page, an amazing wildlife photographer www.flickr.com/photos/pageworld/page commented one of my images and said of my upcoming trip-
" When you get around to the photo parts, remember to shoot it the way you see and feel it, not the way you think will please your loyal fans".

I thought of this many times while I was away and was one of the reasons I made this shot and didn't concentrate on a lot of the more iconic Singapore photo opportunities.

This was taken at the famous Lavo Restaurant. It is described as a " swanky New York vibe-dining concept Italian restaurant, rooftop bar and swish party venue all under one roof at Marina Bay Sands" and is 57 floors high. The most iconic Instagram shots are of the infinity pool that overlooks the city.

What is one of the most important things you do when you go to a swanky hotel? You check out the ladies bathrooms (well perhaps the men shouldn't ;-). This"glamorous" staircase leads down to the bathrooms. As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to photograph it.

I normally wouldn't have the confidence to do this as I had to set the tripod up to make the shot and everyone had to walk past me or straight up towards me. But my lovely friend encouraged me and who am I to disappoint. Funny thing was, everyone in Singapore uses mobile phones for photography so everyone assumed I was a professional photographer with the tripod and fat lens. And they seemed to love the attention!

Had a lot of fun with this one. It does have a texture added and I wanted to bring out the gold/brassy tones.
