Dog Rocks is a Flora and Fauna Sanctuary, near Geelong, The Dog Rocks themselves, are an outcrop of Devonian granite, intruded some 350 million years ago.
The is one of those "that Tree" a lone tree perched on top of a hill set amongst the ancient rocky outcrops. Photographers congregate to capture its beautiful form against a sunset sky. The sky never really performed for us last night but teased us with possibilities of what is possible on a good night. We will just have to go back again and next time will look for Cathy and Heathcliff dancing around the rocks with the wild winds.

Linda Rondstadt made this a hit. Poor Poor Pitifall Me, Carmelita and Blue Bayou bigger hits than Warren ever did. Prince's Raspberry Beret was also a Zevon song.
I chose the title for the dark and stormy mood of the image, taken at Maroondah Dam.
I am re-reading "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", the biography about Warren in preparation for a Zevon tribute show I am going to over the weekend. In some ways I wished I hadn't. It describes the life a tortured alcoholic, extremely flawed and violent man. Very tough reading at times. Yet from this violence and darkens there comes some amazingly tender and beautiful lyrics from a poetic genius.

Flickr Friends Melbourne theme for this month is "Geometric", set by Andrew.
This was taken at the Mont Park Asylum, a psychiatric hospital opened in 1912 and closed in the 1990s. It was the subject of an image from a few posts back about my grandmother and her time here in the 1940s and early 50s. Most of the buildings remain and are used as La Trobe University which is opposite the site. Some are quite beautiful and I took this image with the Geometric theme in mind as I really love the geometry of the gorgeous windows.
