This is a museum partition scheme that was itself designed to light the exhibition in a particular way. These are very low contrast scenes, and they require very steep curves etc. to get this effect.

I tried shooting this one in the hand held high resolution mode to keep the noise down. But the camera kept complaining about being unable to assemble the image properly. Upped the ISO a bit to get a fast shutter speed to help the camera with the alignment. No go. Sure enough, the hi-res files do show some artifacts. It probably couldn't find edges to match or something like that due to the overall low contrast. I forgot to reset the ISO after those failed attempts so this has two stops more noise than it had to...

I usually do these from a higher vantage point with a longer lens and isolate the lamps, but this time I had my short lens on and gulls were agreeable so I shot it like this. Left a sliver of the city in at the bottom as well. Unkapanı bridge, Istanbul.
