One of the often dismissed features of a Tomcat is its very complex underbelly. Firstly, as can be seen on the left-hand side, the Tomcat can carry two AIM-7 Sparrows in a dedicated missile well in the tunnel (+2 AIM-7 on the front stations, which I forgot to hang...). n order to hang the pallets for AIM-54 Phoenix, the missile well had to be covered (pic in the middle). Only then all four Phoenixes could be installed (right-hand side).

Here is presented how the underbelly looks like with the landing gear folded. While the folding itself is rather painful experience, the overall effect is quite satysfying.

Since I've made a few upgrades to my F-14D Tomcat, especially in the nose section, I decided it's a good moment to try a bit more serious approach to the photo session. It's still not perfect, but at least better than the last time. About the model itself – it is a 1:33 scale Grumman F-14D Tomcat, depicting the "100" from the VF-2 "Bounty Hunters squadron", stationed on the "USS Constellation", around 2002-2003. The model features a fully detailed, opening cockpit, swing-wing mechanism, working flaps and stabilizers, working airbrakes, and retractable landing gear. I also wanted to add some functionality in terms of the weapon loadout, so you can see the coverable missile wells on the bottom, with provision for Phoenix pallets. Another thing I'm quite satisfied with is the angling between the front section and the rest of the plane. I will likely tinker with it in the future, but mostly in terms of general sturdiness, rather than the shape. So, enjoy.
