In early Autumn many summer migrant birds are heading back to their warmer wintering grounds. This Wheatear allowed me the pleasure of spending a couple of hours together in the late afternoon sunshine.
It was successfully hunting subsurface grubs, whilst I was hunting a decent photo ! You can see the soil on it’s bill - I had soil on my trousers ! It was happy to come close to me if I kept still, and it afforded me this close up shot, before we went our separate ways. I wished it good fortune and headed the 30 minutes home. The Wheatear had a little further to go than me - to central Africa !
I hoped that we might meet again next Spring.
Thank you for having a look at my photos. Comments or faves are very welcome and much appreciated.

The most common terrapin in the UK is the red-eared terrapin,Terrapins lie somewhere between turtles and tortoises. They happily live in water but also like to bask in the sun. Like turtles, they are omnivores.

In Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya, my first close encounter with a reticulated giraffe. Up to now my girafe familiarity had been only with the masai giraffe of the Serengeti-Masai Mara ecosystem. This giraffe was munching on acacia trees near our lodging at Elephant Bedroom Camp. ©2022 | John M. Hudson
