TE33AS-0006 passes though the Almaty suburb of Pokrovka with a container train that has most likely come from China. The TE33AS will take the train as far as Almaty 1 where an electric loco will replace it for it's next stage.

This line on the day I visited produced a lot of traffic with often 3 trains running back to back in the same direction.

VL80S-1134 heads north out of Karagandy with an intermodal from China, bound for Russia and prehaps onwards into Europe. Quite unexpectedly the first containers behind the loco were DB Schenker.

KTZ TE33A-0125 leaves Mojynty heading along the unelectrified line towards Balkhash. Traffic on the line was good with this being the first of about 10 trains in a 8 hour period.

A VL40M being quite the small loco for a long rake of coal wagons arrives into Astana's city limits from the North. VL40Ms are modernised half sections of a VL80 and seen to do odd jobs, smaller/shorter distance freights.
