After a long 500 mile drive in the dark, some buddies and I finally made it to Badlands National Park at about 130am. We debated just going to our campground to get some needed sleep, but the skies were clear and all of a sudden we were full of energy and HAD to go shoot. This was my first big photography trip of the year and the level of excitement was through the roof. I was burned a couple times with cloudy skies chasing the Milky Way in Badlands last year (hence the title), and to finally not only get clear skies but to also take home a few images left me feeling accomplished.
The tail end of the Lyrid meteor shower was happening, and I lucked out catching one through the core of the Milky Way right above Saturn. To the left is a bit of aurora which was was invisible to the naked eye, and I had thought it was airglow when I looked at my camera LCD. It wasn't until I talked with a friend (a fellow night photographer) who suggested I check the aurora alerts for that night when we figured out it was in fact aurora.
I will be sharing a few more images from this short but productive trip so stay tuned!

A pano I shot a few weeks ago when I was invited out by a friend to go shoot this cute little abandoned school house and church in rural Iowa.
The interesting cloud formations mixed with the light pollution gave the sky a intense fiery look to it.

During my short time in Casper Wyoming for the eclipse, I had one night of clear skies, and I took full advantage. I was able to shoot a couple of multi-row, and vertical panos before the core fell out of sight. This multi-row pano was shot up on the side of a bluff above Lake Alcova about 20-30 miles SW of Casper which is the source of the light pollution on the left.
This multi-row pano consists of 3 rows of 7 frames using the Nodal Ninja 6. Stitched together in PTGui processed in LR & PS
Canon 6D
Rokinon 14 2.8
ISO 8000
25 seconds
f/2.8 or f/4 I can't remember
