The cold snap accompanied by moderate winds and the light snow that we are experiencing here at Keefer Lake has me in the photographic archives hoping to find 'diamonds in the rust.' Which is to say, are there photographs I have taken in my extensive archives that I rejected not because of some basic flaw (e.g., out of focus, framed improperly) but because there was a technological shortcoming that I could not overcome? This photo is a case in point; it was underexposed badly by my ineptitude and therefore riddled with digital noise when I compensated for the underexposure (in spite of being shot at ISO 100). Using my limited skills at processing in 2007 and the Photoshop/Lightroom versions of that year I could not fix the noise. Today, I am admittedly only slightly more skilled - but the processing software (Photoshop/Lightroom) for noise has improved 'leaps and bounds.' IMHO, I was able to 'rescue' this fox and proudly present his portrait to the world (well, at least to my good friends on Flickr). Word to the wise ... don't erase your old photos, storage is (relatively) cheap and .... don't forget to backup and then back it all up again.

More Keefer Lake foxes whose portraits I have taken over the years can be viewed in the first comment box below. There have been black foxes that I've encountered at Keefer Lake but I have yet to get them to sit for a portrait. Cheers!

Spotted Towhees are striking birds with reddish undersides, and white spots on its wings. Look for them on the forest floor as they scratch through the leaf litter searching for seeds and insects.
