‘Druid Inn’, Main Street, Birchover, Derbyshire. Saturday 07 November 2015.
A traditional county free house that is very difficult to photograph. The main room features open fires at both ends which is lovely on a cold winter’s night. Both the landlord and the landlady are passionate about beer, with the central bar offering four real ales. The pub has a mixed clientele of locals plus tourists visiting the Peak District National Park. Dogs are welcome in this comfortably and friendly pub.
Excellent home-cooked food is served in both the main room and a separate restaurant. The menu is chalked up on a blackboard although it is extremely difficult to read as the choices on offer are written very close together. I had a lovely meal, meat on meat (several strips of steak) served with chips and flat mushroom (£16) accompanied with a small house salad (£2). Unfortunately on this occasion none of the desserts on offer appealed to me, so I had another pint instead.
