LTV Steel 4214 leads a taconite pellet train to Taconite Harbor on June 11, 1999.

The lash-up was a mixed bag of EMDs, even with a GP20 thrown in. The sound was fabulous and made forget about the drone of the insects around my head. Thank goodness the three LRCX C30-7 weren't out that day.

LTV Steel 4214 leads a taconite train over the unloading dock at Taconite Harbor on June 11, 1999. Meanwhile the Mesabi Miner is receiving pellets from the pockets. There was no direct loading from the train to the Great Lake ships.

The accompanying 9 minute sound recording remains one of my favorites. With the waves gently slapping on the rocky shore you could well use it for meditation.

Backlit & high sun? Nevermind. Two LS&I U-Boats, led by 3051, bring an ore train down to Marquette. Michigan. No screaming dynamics here, the GEs chugged past my microphone as if they were dragging the ancient hoppers uphill. June 9, 1999.
