La Potence est le nom donné aux étonnants vestiges d'un des châteaux bâtis au sommet du volcan de Baury.
Le château dont il reste La Potence (XIVe s) comportait 23 tours sur 3 zones enceintes. Restaurée au siècle passé, la Potence est notoire par sa ligne de mâchicoulis restée en équilibre au-dessus du vide et restaurée telle quelle. Vue sur les volcans du Devès et du Velay, notamment le Mont Bar qui fait face à Allègre.

La Potence is the name given to the astonishing remains of one of the castles built on the summit of the Baury volcano.
The castle of which La Potence (14th century) remains had 23 towers on 3 surrounding areas. Restored in the last century, La Potence is famous for its line of machicolations that remained balanced above the void and restored as it was. View of the Devès and Velay volcanoes, in particular Mont Bar which faces Allègre.
