This is a glued Lego store display from 1976 and is based on the old nursery rhyme;
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn't know what to do;
She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

Some of the rhyme's contemporary versions have endings that are more appropriate to Lego's values. I suspect the inspiration was closer to "Then kissed them all gladly
and sent them to bed."
This model was most likely made in the Billund Model shops.

The Enchanted Stump is a Display from the late 1970's. Built in 1978 or 1979, it has a very similar style to the "Summer Fantasy" Lego World Show of 1982.

This model has seven moving features powered with three motors. The inner workings are quite complex and are mostly Technic Lego powered by Crouzet motors. It requires a European power supply, so was created for the European market.

I have found models destined for display on retail store shelves usually featured the LEGO logo prominently on the model. This one has no LEGO lego or inventory #. I'm still trying to find more information on where this would have been shown. If you have any information on this display or know of another please comment.

Many of these were destroyed when they were returned to Lego. Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen wanted to ensure that dirty and broken models weren't in circulation. It was important to protect the image of the company.
