A plaque on the building reads:
"This used to be the chapel for the old castle. It was enlarged and modified over the years and has been the parish church since 1079.
The choir is decorated with eight sculpted faces. According to legend they are of members of the Oingt family including Marguerite (1310) prioress of the Chartreuse de Polleitens order and polyglot writer.
A sad event is linked to this church, in 1757 lightning struck the bell tower, six men were killed and around 40 were wounded."
