Completed by the US Government in 1941, Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir supply water for agricultural, municipal, and industrial use. As a side benefit, the reservoir provides numerous recreational activities include boating, fishing, camping, swimming and water skiing. Oh, I forgot to mention the reservoir provides numerous opportunities for nature photography. ;-)

In order to build the earthen dam, the government relocated 10.44 miles of Rio Grande's Provo Canyon Branch above the 5,400 ft. elevation of the reservoir. Most of line change was constructed on the northwest bank, isolated from paved roads. Limited access is available for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians via a non-motorized public trail, beginning at the dam and ending at Soldier Hollow near Midway.

Photographed from the aforementioned trail, Heber Valley Railroad's Lakeside Limited has turned on the siding at Wallsburg, and begins the 10-mile journey back home to Heber City.
