Burlington Northern train No. 4 squeals around a 10 degree curve through Lynch Coulee between Trinidad and Crater, Washington the morning of July 1, 1995.

The Great Northern Railway built this route on 20 mile, a 1% grade to lift the right of way from the Columbia River to the apple growing region around Quincy, Washington.

Doug Harrop Photography • February 24, 1978

Doug was in Salt Lake City, when he discovered at set of A-B-A DD35 series locomotives departing for Provo. He caught several great images in the 45 mile distance between the two cities.

The "money shot" of the chase is this overtake in Orem, Utah. Union Pacific 1875/1875B, a TR5 "cow & calf" set, have pulled cars of coil steel from nearby Geneva Works. Meanwhile, UP extra 75 West passes through on the Provo main, slowing to cross the Rio Grande double track at Lakota Crossing, and continue on to Provo.
