The Brodten cliffs runs for four kilometers along the Bay of Lübeck (Baltic Sea) between Lübeck-Travemünde and Niendorf (near the village of Brodten) in Schleswig-Holstein.
The cliff, which is up to 20 m high, is active and retreats by an average of around 50 to 100 cm per year due to the influence of the Baltic Sea. The demolition occurs mostly in the winter months due to the impact of waves during storms and after heavy rains due to the sliding of parts of the cliffs when they are destabilized by the water escaping from individual layers.

This translation of Dunnock from old English words ‘dun’ and ‘ock’ meaning ‘brown’ and ‘small’, respectively. Dunnock feeds on the ground but doesn’t venture too far from the safety of dense hedgerows, and it somewhat resembles a sparrow at a distance. For these reasons Dunnocks also called hedge sparrows though it is a completely different species at a close look and behave differently. This fellow was quite happy to look for food in the grass still not far from its comfort zone seen as dark shadowed area at the back. The Botanical Gardens. … with a distinctive character.
The name Orchid originates from the Greek world ‘Orchis’ meaning ‘testes’ with the reference to the shape of root tubers (bulbous expansions used for storage of nutrients) seen in some terrestrial species. In many cultures, orchids were praised for their medicinal properties to treat various ailments and often were associated with masculinity and fertility powers. There are 28,000 species of orchids grouped into 850 groups (genus) which thrive in every corner of our planets except in extremes of the Polar regions. Orchids have been the part of folklore and symbolism mainly due to their amazing flowers that came in different shapes, forms and in all colours except black that intrigued people and scientists for many centuries and still fascinate us today.
This macro image of the Venus Slipper orchid, Paphiopedilum x maudiae ‘Femma’, has been converted to B&W to focus on a unique shape the flower can have at a certain angle. I feel it reflects well a magical essence of the world of Orchids. Bath, BANES, England, UK.

The eastern sky on that morning was clear, bright and almost cloudless at the time of sunrise. After taking few images here, I walked to my favourite spot on the other west facing side of Lansdown Hill. It was bitterly cold and windy, and the western sky was covered with a fast-moving blanket of grey clouds looking rather drab. It was nearly 1 hour after sunrise when the sky has transformed. Sometimes it pays off to wait and to look back in order to get the best morning colours of the day. The Cotswold Way, Lansdown Hill, BANES, England UK.
