That perfect winter storm light..
Number 5 was about an hour and 40 minutes behind at Fort Morgan today. I was on my heels trying to work this all time favorite spot in full flock this year I’ve favored since I was in my 20’s. Sparkling snow in that perfect angle this time of year and add the intensity of a heavy flock of mountain spring time powder and it’s a match made in rail-fan heaven. In and out sun pockets; the sun glistens off the fresh 10” of snow. Fast evaporating snow is condensing into clouds along the Flatirons and here in Coal Creek Canyon, sauce for the goose.

“Silver thread through the Rockies” the advertising agent wrote in the 1950’s for the California Zephyr. Now more than 70 years later the phrase still stands true. @amtrak Number 5, the California Zephyr is seen here going through the Rockies, not around them and shimmers in the beautiful winter morning light along the amazing Flatirons. .

The rushing water in the river coming from the high peaks of the continental divide lap at my feet while I lay next to the shore among the rocks. Aspen leaves in gold fall from the trees in the gentle breeze. Nice day

I looked out the window and saw the break at Big Ten from an ongoing thundershower in Arvada; looked at ATCS and saw Amtrak was eminent in the next 30 minutes and headed over the Plainview for an attempted rainbow shot. Got lucky this time, it stayed for a better part of an hour as this storm made its way East. Crazy but true before 6 was out of this frame a shadow from a cloud to my west dropped the rainbow and shadowed the area in front of me. 30-45 seconds I’m thanking the one above for saving this one. 8/6/20 Plainview, CO
