Theres nothing quite like watching a distant storm pass over the open plains. This was the view from our campsite in the Nebraska panhandle.
This one is a little more technical than I would normally do (which is not what I had intended while shooting in the field), but it is a combination of a few different lightning exposures blended together as well as a focus blend. I was initially at 35mm but as the storm moved further away, I switched to telephoto but was never happy with the foreground so decided to blend the two while post-processing them. The flat horizon made the focal blend fairly straightforward.
The sky frames were photographed at 70mm, while the foreground was shot at 35mm. All were taken within a small window from each other and my camera did not move between changing focal lengths.
