In a small chapel on the south side of the Kirk overlooking Loch Awe lies this wooden effigy of Robert The Bruce. The patination is superb as are the hands and feet which are made of alabaster. Beneath the effigy is a small chamber containing one of Robert The Bruce's bones.

Now aged 8 months old, and having a very nice holiday in Cornwall.
After the haircut a few weeks ago my hair is now starting to grow back but at least I can still see.

DUNCAN BAN MACINTYRE (1724-1812)
The Gaelic Bard, Duncan Ban (or "Fair" Duncan), was born in a now deserted township on the shores of Loch Tulla in 1724.
On the top of a hill in the middle of a forest sits his monument 44 feet tall and made of granite. It was built in 1859 after money was raised by public subscription and was viewed by Queen Victoria when she visited in 1875. As is usually the case with granite there is no sign of wear and tear, unlike limestone and the monument looks as dark and foreboding today as it probably did when it was first constructed.
Macintyre died in 1812 at the age of 86.

Apparently this church is constructed from boulders dragged dwon from the hillside and shaped in site rather than from quarried stone which is the usual practice. The colours of the stones was fantastic especially with the backdrop of Loch Awe.
