On August 6, 2016, I captured one of the most stunning sunsets I've ever witnessed. In a beautiful rural Virginia scene, an eastbound coal drag rolled out of the Blue Ridge mountains past a weathered barn as the sky was on fire. I took this with with my old D3400, and recently cleaned it up in Lightroom using modern technology. I am so glad that I took this scene in at the time, and that modern technology has allowed me to showcase it to its full potential.

Over the weekend we were back in Franklin county for a wedding with Kasey's family. As I was checking FB friday night, I talked to a few fellow railfans in the area and learned a warbonnet would be leading 19W north on the NS Winston Salem district, better known as the pumpkin vine. I have spent multiple weeks on the northern and southern transcons, only to have my first time photographing one of these leading to be in the mountains of southwest Virginia in a very lucky coincidence of timing. Here is the consist of the year on a train in Virginia leaning into a curve just outside of Boone's Mill in a beautiful fall scene. Thanks to everyone for the heads up on this one, and it was great seeing some friends out trackside.

At Munger, MN 2 CN subdivisions cross over and under one another. Watching the ATCS, we knew it would be close. Unfortunately, it was PAINFULLY close, as we ALMOST had the over/under. We would proceed to get an absolutely fantastic day with the BLE 909, which more than made up for our near miss at an iconic shot.

The first railroad tracks traversed through Weldon, North Carolina in 1841. 180 years later, the community is still an important location in US Railroading. Under bluebird skies on a gorgeous southern morning, a northbound CSX train crosses over the unique low-bridge in the heart of Weldon.
