The Parish Church of Saint Adelwold
The parish church of St Adelwold has a 13th century west tower and font, the chancel was rebuilt in brick in 1806. The church shares the same churchyard with St Mary (only a few metres to the west of St Adelwold's and now redundant) of the neighbouring village of North Cockingham.

The town was the origin of the Lincolnshire Rising, which started on 1 October 1536 in St James Church. The rising began after Rev. Thomas Kendall, the incumbent, gave an 'emotive sermon', the evening before the King's Commissioners were due to arrive and assess the church's wealth.
