It’s quite possible that the Estrilda astrild arrived in Brazil in the 17th or 18th centuries with the enslaved people, considering the bird’s history. This species, with its limited flying ability, couldn’t have arrived naturally, like through migration. During the slave trade, many animals were brought unintentionally or intentionally on slave ships. This included not only birds, but also other animals like rats and insects.

Although there’s no absolute confirmation that the Estrilda astrild came this way, it’s a very likely theory, given the history of forced transportation of both humans and animals to Brazil.
