On October 9, 2024, IAIS 701 East struck a liquid asphalt semi truck at the 110th Ave crossing between Walcott and Davenport, IA. The collision ripped the tank trailer in half and sent liquid asphalt everywhere. Thankfully the crew and truck driver were uninjured.
For now, IAIS 701 and a 3-pack well car, sit on the RIP track at Silvis pending cleanup and repairs. 701 is not only covered in asphalt, but also has damage to the pilot and nose. 701 is one of four GP38-2's with PTC and one of about half-a-dozen that have been fitted with air conditioning.

Today's bonus rerun OARCB (old ass rivet counter boomer) mundane high sun, silver box, gravel pile, leaning, wirey, mindless wedgie! Continuing with my 1992 vacation, I've left Oregon behind, again, and Idaho too, making a fast trip home. So let's return now to those thrilling days of yesteryear and pick up where I last left off in my never ending fetish to capture a train in a perfect NGPN (National Geographic Pristine Nature) setting.
So today the Wayback Machine is set to 8:58am, on Saturday, October 10, 1992 east of Stuart, Iowa as I am once again stopped on my eastward trip home. I know, i know, I too am sad its not UP but it is what it is.
