Not sure what’s happening here. The heron selected a stick that was floating by, then proceeded to use it almost like a probe. Maybe to stir up the sediment and food matter that it may contain?

Very easily confused with the Welcome swallow, however shorter tail feathers ( the fork not usually extending beyond the wing tips) helps.
