A sixteenth century Venetian built lighthouse separates the entrance and safety of the Chania harbor from the churning Crete Sea. Rebuilt and refurbished in 1864 by the Egyptians (during an Egyptian occupation of Crete) and most recently in 2006 after being damaged nearly 70 years earlier during World War II.
