In the past I have referred to the location as Stillorgan Hill rather than The Hill Stillorgan and this attracted some negative comments.

The Stillorgan Orchard ceased trading as a pub in early 2023. It was not sold as a going concern, but as a site for redevelopment. This has indeed caused sadness among locals who frequented the popular establishment. While the future of the site remains uncertain, planning permission has been sought for a mixed-use development including apartments and commercial space.

The Stillorgan Orchard, one of South Dublin's oldest established pubs, was sadly closed in early 2023. Known for its excellent food and prime location on The Hill in Stillorgan, it was a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Despite its traditional thatched roof – the largest in Ireland for a pub – the interior offered a modern European café-style look with spacious seating, natural light, and a welcoming atmosphere.

The pub boasted ample parking, two heated patios, and catered for private parties and functions. Its closure marks the end of an era for this landmark establishment, and its future remains uncertain as the site is earmarked for redevelopment.

I first photographed this pub back in April 2012, and the area has undergone significant change since then. A number of large buildings across the road have been demolished, making the immediate vicinity less attractive.

Regarding "Stillorgan Hill" vs. "The Hill Stillorgan": While both terms are used, "The Hill Stillorgan" is generally preferred and considered more accurate. Using "The Hill" as the primary name reflects its status as a specific place name rather than simply a descriptive term.
