En hiver , les deux sexes sont d’un blanc pur avec des rectrices externes noires . Au cours de l’été , la tête et le cou du mâle devient d’un roux intense et le dos devient brunâtre . En été la femelle est d’un brun doré plus pâle avec des motifs complexes noirs et blancs .

In winter , both sexes are pure white with black tail feathers . During the summer , the head and neck of the male becomes an intense red and the back becomes brownish . In summer , the female is a paler golden brown with intricate and white patterns .
