This wasp is haggling with the bees to suck any moisture it can get from the damp stick.
Taken during the searing drought, summer of 2019-20, I had put a bowl of water in the shade for birds and insects. There was very little water to be had anywhere + water restrictions and bushfires up and down the east coast, every creature was desperate. Insects used the sticks I'd placed in the bowl to get down to the water without falling in.
Temperature: 44 degrees Celcius (111.2 Fahrenheit).
